Overview
Rides are led by trained guides who match each rider to a suitable horse. Beginners get a short briefing and walk or trot at first. Confident riders can ask for a faster pace on open stretches of sand.
The most popular times are early morning and late afternoon, when the light is soft and the sand is cool. Some rides include a short swim with the horses in the sea, depending on the tide and the horse.
Helmets and basic safety gear are provided. We recommend long trousers or comfortable shorts, closed shoes if possible and sunscreen.
Mosum Tours & Safaris is a Zanzibar-based operator with more than ten years of experience in ground handling. Our guides and drivers live on the island, know it well and are on WhatsApp from 8 AM to 9 PM every day.

Best Time to Go Horse Riding in Zanzibar
Beach rides run all year. The dry seasons — June to October and December to February — bring firm sand, calm seas and clear skies, the ideal conditions for cantering along the shoreline and swimming with the horses. Early-morning and golden-hour rides are the most comfortable, avoiding the midday heat.
- Excellent — firm sand, calm sea, clear skies
- Good — occasional short showers
- Moderate — long-rains season, rides still operate
Peak months (June–October & December–February) fill up fast — booking a few days ahead secures your preferred date and the golden-hour slot.
